Medrese varlığını zengin vakıf gelirleriyle surdurebilmistir. Med- resenin gelirleri XVI.yuzyılın ilk ceyreğinde azalmıs olsa da bu yuzyılın sonlarında tekrar yukselmistir. Vakıf gelirlerinde gorulen gerilemenin evkaf defterlerinden tespit edilen iki ana nedeni olabilir. Bunlardan birisi bu yıllarda meydana gelen kuraklık ve kıtlığa bağlı olarak gerceklesen hububat uretimindeki dusus ve nufustaki azalmalardır. Osmanlı Devleti’nin son donemlerine kadar faaliyetini surduren medrese 1940 yılında hapishane olarak kullanılmaya baslanmıstır.1969 yılında Niğde valiliğine bağlı muze olarak faaliyete gecmis, 1985 yılında Eski Eserler ve Muzeler Genel Mudurluğu tara- fından restore edilerek Aksaray Muzesi olarak ziyaretcilerin hizmetine acılmıstır.1996 yılında Aksaray’da yeni bir muze binası yapılarak buradaki eserler bu yeni muze bina- sına tasınmıstır. 1997 yılında Zinciriye Medresesi Vakı+ ar Genel Mudurluğu tarafın- dan aslına uygun olarak restore edilmis ve bir sure eğlence mekanı olarak kullanılmıs ancak simdilerde bos durmaktadır. Kultur ve sanat faaliyetleri acısından son derece gerilerde olan Aksaray ilinde Zinciriye Medresesi cok guzel bir kultur ve sanat merke- zi yapılabilir.
