Description
Résumé:The Cosmas and Damian‟s candy is distributed during 27 of September (Cosmas and Damian‟ day) to 12 of October (Children‟s day). These saints were syncretized with eres (children‟ spirits) in the Afro-Brazilian religions. These candies are presented like vow, in the popular Catholicism, or they were oblation to Orishas (Afro religious divinities). Our paper discuss the practice of giving and receiving the candy and its origins, based upon the notion of total social fact and magic from Marcel Mauss, and also the attitude of refuse of evangelicals, principally Pentecostals, and still the reconfiguration made by the Universal Church of Kingdom God when it gives blessed candies, because it fears that children be possessed by evil spirits when they eat candies offered in this time.
