| Zusammenfassung: | O presente artigo apresenta um breve relato histórico e bibliográfico sobre o desenvolvimento de uma cultura visual adventista entre os anos 1830 a 1860 sob a perspectiva da influência exercida pela orientação textocentrada do movimento. Para tanto, fala-se da cultura das publicações impressas e de produções visuais do milerismo, movimento de reavivamento norte-americano do século 19 que pregava a volta de Jesus em 1843-1844, contexto do qual o adventismo emergiu. Depois, o texto se concentra em descrever uma breve história da cultura visual milerita e adventista, suas características e a influência da orientação textocentrada na produção de diagramas ilustrados que, na tradição milerita-adventista, eram um sofisticado esquema de texto-imagem de narrativa linear. This paper presents a brief historical and bibliographic account on the development of an Adventist visual culture between the years of 1830 to 1860 from a perspective of the text-centered orientation of the movement. To that end, the paper describes the print-driven vocation and the visual culture of the Millerism, a nineteenth-century American revival movement that preached Jesus’ return in 1843-1844, a context from which Adventism emerged. Afterwards, the text describes a history of Millerite and Adventist visual culture, its characteristics and an influence of the text-centered orientationon the production of illustrated diagrams which, in the Millerite-Adventist tradition, were a sophisticated text-image scheme of linear narrative. |
