Cette collection est précédée d’un dense avant-propos dans lequel, s’appuyant sur des travaux comme ceux de Max Weber, de Michel Foucault et de Giorgio Agamben, l’auteur entend démontrer que le monachisme ancien a joué le rôle de matrice sous-estimée des sociétés modernes, non seulement dans des domaines souvent mentionnés dans le passé (prisons, élections démocratiques etc.), mais aussi dans celui de l’efficience productive, de la perception du travail et de la rationalisation du temps. Dans une perspective foucaldienne, le monastère serait « une usine managée par un berger ». Les présentes notes discutent cette thèse et concluent tout au contraire à l’altérité profonde du monachisme antique et médiéval au regard de notre modernité économique et sociale. | ||

This collection is preceded by a dense foreword in which, using works like those of Max Weber, Michel Foucault and Giorgio Agamben, the author intends to demonstrate that ancient monasticism has played the role of an underestimated matrix of modern societies, not only in fields often mentioned in the past (prisons, democratic elections etc.), but also in that of productive efficiency and rationalization of time. From a Foucauldian perspective, the monastery is “a factory managed by a shepherd”. The present “notes” discuss this thesis and conclude, on the contrary, by affirming the profound otherness of ancient and medieval monasticism with regard to our economic and social modernity. | ||
