Même s’il y a plus d’ouverture à la religion, de nombreux groupes religieux affirment que les sociétés occidentales sont néanmoins toujours dominées par la laïcité et veulent s’assurer que la liberté de religion et de croyance continue d’être protégée et promue. Cet article explore la récente Australian Religious Freedom Review en tant qu’étude de cas de la tension sociale entre la liberté de religion et la liberté de ne pas adhérer à une religion, et ce pour argumenter que nous avons peut-être déjà dépassé la phase de post-sécularisation dans ce pays. Dans cette phase, ce que l’on entend par liberté de religion évolue, passant de la volonté de permettre à tous les groupes religieux de pratiquer librement leur foi à la volonté de certaines religions dominantes de rester libres de pratiquer des discriminations sur la base de leur foi. | ||

Even if there is more openness to religion, many religious groups would claim that Western societies are nevertheless still dominated by secularism and want to ensure that freedom of religion and belief remain protected and promoted. This article explores the recent Australian Religious Freedom Review as a case study of the social tension between freedom for and from religion to argue that we might have moved beyond a post-secular sphere in this country. In this phase, what is meant by freedom of religion has shifted from a focus in having all religious groups being able to freely practice their faith to a focus by some mainstream religions to remain free to discriminate on the basis of their faith. | ||
