Zusammenfassung:From a consideration of disability, the body as a training ground for virtue asks questions of ability and disability, of the body, and of the training for virtue. The first question locates and challenges the social construction of disability that distinguishes disabled from nondisabled people. The second question explores the virtues of nurture and fidelity as those excellences that are proper, regardless of disability, of and for all relationships. The third question asks how nondisabled and disabled bodies are to be readied and then trained in virtue. The discussion considers the ground of embodiment, which occasions every disabled and nondisabled life, as the most appropriate starting place in the quest of any virtue.
