Description
Résumé:This concise and focused book straddles the fine line between acknowledging the inherent problems that the human right to freedom of religion presents (such as conflicting with gender equality or preventing coercion from within religious groups), while also asserting that one should avoid an undue dismissal of this important human right (with the warning that human rights also can be turned into a doctrinal movement, at the expense of all other views or belief systems). Seminal questions like to what extent should the state allow for religious groups yet still provide protection against discrimination are ably addressed, with the key underlying point being that the human right to freedom of religion has an indispensable role to play in upholding human rights writ large.
