Description
Résumé:This article constitutes a discussion of the situation regarding the applied scientific study of religion in Brazil. In the first section, the complex scenario of the discipline in this country is presented, showing its contentious relationship with theology, which has led many Brazilians to believe that the applied scientific study of religion and practical theology are the same. After highlighting the fact that there are, however, researchers in Brazil who consider them distinct disciplines, we focus on what this group is producing on the subject. In the following section, the international influence of Tworuschka, Cavallin, Jensen, and Alberts on Brazilian thought is mentioned. In the following section, the Brazilian theory of Matheus Oliva da Costa on the applied scientific study of religion is described. In conclusion, the actions that Brazilian scholars of religion have taken to increase the employability of those trained in the field are presented.
