Zusammenfassung: | This article describes the objectives, methodology, and outcomes of a course designed to accompany seminary-organized intercultural learning trips. The course is framed around race as a primary marker of difference in US society which has exercised a profound and lasting influence on the conceptualization and practice of mission. By inviting students to observe the construction of racism in other cultural contexts (Philippines, Cuba), they were able to better understand racism in our own context and consider its impact on our engagement in mission. The article describes the course methodology as intercultural, postcolonial, and experiential and the impacts of the course/trip are summarized, along with some reflection on the questions which arose out of the experience. |
