Les conditions dans lesquelles ils ont effectué leur démarche ont de quoi provoquer le doute. Malgré les mesures visant à séparer les convertis de leurs anciens coreligionnaires, celui-ci ne cède pas et s'alimente à des interrogations constamment renouvelées. Dès lors, les autorités religieuses entrent dans un cycle chronique de suspicion et de vérification qui s'avère totalement stérile et débouche sur la remise en cause de l'idéal qui sous-tendait l'apologétique chrétienne depuis les origines : celui de la conversion des juifs. | ||
