Résumé:In contemporary China political culture, the advance of "socialist spiritual civilization" presupposes a "disenchanted" world in which magical belief appears to be a misguided understanding of reality. The article deals with the representation of magical belief on two levels. The first of this is the representation of magical belief as a competing belief system, one that's negatively defined against belief in science and dialectical materialism. On a second level, feudal superstition is represented as an unfortunate side effect of other problems. (DÜI-Sen)
