Description
Résumé:This article deals with the question of who the Prophet Muhammad is to Christians. Muslims have often posed the question to Christians based on the reality that Jesus is mentioned in more than ninety verses in the Qur'an while, from the Jewish and Christian points of view, no mention is made of Muhammad in their Scriptures. Looking at how this question has been discussed by Christian writers, mostly theologians or religious leaders with the goal of strengthening intra-Christian debates about Islam and Christian-Muslim engagement, the main argument of this article is that, when discussing the figure of the Prophet Muhammad or Jesus, we ignore many aspects of lived religious life, theology, and personal experience. In contrast, we limit the material and knowledge about the foundational figures of Islam and Christianity to textual evidence. This approach fails to reach a satisfactory answer since it remains on the surface.
