Description
Summary:In this article, we describe the Wheaton College Humanitarian Disaster Institute (HDI), which is the first faith-based academic disaster research center in the U.S. The purpose of this article is to summarize HDI's training model. We describe how this model is based on HDI's (a) mission statement, (b) institutional components, (c) training philosophy, (d) training objectives, and (e) training opportunities. We hope that doing so will encourage other graduate psychology and counseling programs--especially faith-based programs - to explore ways they can expand their training of students in disaster mental health and in the provision of disaster spiritual and emotional care.
