These ostensibly secular narratives were rich with religious themes such as incarnation, kenosis, resurrection, faith seeking understanding, messianic expectation, virgin birth, free will, fate, evil, prophetic forewarning, and salvation. They were foundational in establishing, in effect, a humanistic mythos.
