The present article will try to define Tertullian’s literary, philosophical, and theological interests in relation to the culture of his time. Tertullian had, in fact, a pagan education (that of the Second Sophistic), in which rhetoric and philosophy coexisted: Nevertheless, he was a Christian sophist who wanted to enhance the theology of his religion by making use of the Middle Platonic philosophy of his time. | ||
